New workshops teach parents the real secret
to communicating with babies! Now giving Free Gymbo the Clown children sleeping bags.

Baby Signs Programs now offered at GymboreeOakridge

[San José, April 18] – Gymboree Play and Music, the pioneer and worldwide leader of parent-child play, music and art programs, today announced the introduction of its new Baby Signs® Program, for children 6-36 months. Gymboree has teamed up with Baby Signs, Inc. to provide this new program that will teach babies to use simple gestures to communicate with their parents.

“I’m so excited to be the first to bring this wonderful program to our community,” said Janki Popat, The New Owner of Gymboree Oakridge at Westfield Shopping Town, on Blossom Hill Rd. “Baby Signs® Programs fit hand-in-hand with the philosophy of Gymboree, and that is to provide quality programs which not only promote positive development in a fun environment, but also strengthen the parent-child bond.”

“Using signs with babies gives us a peek into their world, what they are thinking, and what they want to share with us,” added Popat “With the Baby Signs® Program, we are giving parents a way to see into their child’s world and tap into a whole new realm of possibilities. These babies can feel proud that they are able to communicate their needs and wants to their parents, and as a result they are less frustrated and more confident in themselves.”

Baby Signs® Programs
More than 20 years ago, child development experts Linda Acredolo, Ph.D. and Susan Goodywn, Ph.D. developed the BABY SIGNS® Program for infants and toddlers ages 6-36 months. Their National Institutes of Health research showed that the BABY SIGNS® Program

 Reduces frustration and builds trust
 Strengthens the parent/infant bond
 Promotes positive emotional development
 Helps babies learn to talk sooner
 Jumpstarts intellectual development

Drs. Acredolo and Goodwyn began to develop gestures using American Sign Language (ASL), but with some adjustments for babies’ level of motor coordination. They found that these motor movements were actually easier for babies to coordinate than those in their mouths and throats.

Gymboree is now offering Baby Signs® Programs in the form of Baby Signs® Parent Workshops and Sign, Say, & Play™ Classes, taught by a certified Baby Signs® instructor--these are two exciting ways that allow parents to choose what best fits their plan for signing with their babies. For a free class call 408-629-5813.

Parent Workshops
This parent-only workshop is an introduction to using signs at home with their babies. Parents will learn what the Baby Signs® Program is all about, why the program is so popular, when the get started, and how to choose and teach signs. They will view a video clip of babies signing with their parents, as well as learn about valuable resources for signing at home with their babies. The workshop lasts for approximately 1-½ hours, including time for questions at the conclusion. Participants will receive the Baby Signs® Parent Kit with their Workshop registration.

Sign, Say, & Play™ Classes
These parent-child classes include activities that introduce families to many of the most popular signs through songs and games that promote cognitive, social, language, literacy, and sensory-motor development. Through these classes, we are also able to teach parents specific ways to provide support to their babies in these areas, which are essential in their first three years of life. The 45-minute classes are once per week for six weeks, each centering on a different theme. This is a great opportunity for parents to practice signing with their babies in a supportive and fun environment along with others who are going through the program. Participants will receive the Sign, Say, & Play™ Starter Kit with their registration for classes. Similar classes that focus on fine and gross motor skills, language development, socialization, musical awareness, and sensory-tactile stimulation are also open for all children until 6 years of age.

Almaden Valley Dentist Receives Highest Rating for Dentistry in San Jose for 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Almaden Valley Dentist Receives Highest Rating for Dentistry in San Jose for 2009

San Jose, California—February 4, 2009— Fred L. Egelston, DDS, a family dental practice in Almaden Valley, has again received the highest ranking for dentistry in Almaden and San Jose for 2009, by The Bay Area Consumer’s Checkbook Magazine, a nonprofit consumer information guide that helps consumers find quality and reasonably priced services.

Egelston is the only dentist in Almaden Valley to receive a 100% rating for superior dental care, and one of only eight dentists in all of San Jose to make the list. The consumer publication chose its highest ranked dentists from an extensive list of over 300 dentists in the San Francisco Bay Area. Egelston has achieved similar distinctions from this publication for the last several years.
Egelston received scores of 100% in every category for superior dental care and service including minimal waiting time, gentleness; explaining and checking prevention methods; asking about symptoms or problems; explaining diagnosis, treatment options, and costs; and maintaining a pleasant, clean office and pleasant staff.

“We thank our patients for this recognition,” said Dr. Egelston. “We truly enjoy our patients and think of them as family, and we believe our greatest service as a dental practice is to provide quality, preventative dentistry. We strive to educate and provide early diagnosis so that problems can be prevented in the first place. We try to make positive differences in the lives of our patients. This would not be possible without an excellent, dedicated staff.'

“We have wonderful patients, and we are so happy our patients recognize Dr. Egelston for his excellent care. In fact, Dr. Egelston has been honored with 100% ratings for the last several years,” said Karen McLane, long-time dental assistant for Egelston’s dental practice.

A graduate of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, Dr. Egelston began his career in 1983 in Almaden Valley, where he grew up and attended Leland High. He is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and the Santa Clara Dental Society. Dr. Egelston practices family, preventive and cosmetic dentistry. He is the proud father of two children, Jennifer and Trey, and is actively involved with the Almaden community.

Egelston’s practice is located at 6501 Crown Blvd., Suite 202, San Jose, CA 95120. For more information call (408) 268-7000 or visit www.drfreddds.com.
